During the congress, we will offer a wide variety of go tournaments, from the serious main tournament, which decides the European Champion, to the more relaxed side tournaments.


Prizes

The total preliminary prize budget for the congress tournaments is 140 000 SEK or 15 000 euro. Based on 25% of the registration fees, the budget for cash prizes is presently 11 000 euro. Cash prizes will be awarded in the Main, Weekend, Pair, Team and in the computer event. Possibly also in the rapid and some of the side tournaments. The exact distribution of the prize money between the tournaments will be decided later.

Additionally, there will be prizes (e.g. books, t-shirts, etc.) for players who scores many wins in the main and the weekend tournaments.

The European Champion and the winners in the Main, Weekend, Pair, Team, Rapid, Lightning, Rengo, 9x9, 13x13, children's and computer tournaments will also be awarded congress horses. These horses are made in Nusnäs, a tiny village across the lake from Leksand. They are hand carved and hand painted and unique for the congress.



Main Tournament

As usual, the main competition, the open European Championship, will be a 10 round MacMahon tournament. The rules used are the EGF tournament rules with simplified Ing rules on all the boards. The komi is 7.5 points.

The time allowance in a game depends on the rank of the highest ranked player of the two players:

Pandanet Weekend Tournament

During the weekend there will be a five round MacMahon tournament, sponsored by Pandanet. The time limits are 60 minutes, with 3 periods of 30 seconds japanese byo-yomi. The rules are japanese, with 6.5 points in komi.

Pair Go Tournament

The EGC pairgo tournament is supported by the Japanese Pairgo Association and will have cash prizes for all pairs who qualify for the quarter finals, totally at least 1200 euro.

The qualification round is a four round Swiss tournament, with reduced handicap. The eight best pairs go though to the finals, which is played as a knock-out tournament. In the finals there is no handicap. The time limit is 45 minutes for each pair, with 3 periods of 10 seconds byoyomi. The rules are japanese, with 6.5 points in komi.

Team Tournament

The team tournament is played with teams of five players, each playing one of the members of the opponent team. The handicap is the rank difference reduced by two and the time limits is 25 minutes with 3 periods of 3 seconds byoyomi, i.e., almost sudden death.

We will like to see teams where the members live in the same area, e.g., same region, country or even city.

The qualification round is played as a Swiss tournament, where the best eight teams goes through to the finals, which is a knock-out tournament.

Rapid Tournament

The rapid tournament is a fast paced event, placed in the afternoons. It will be a nine round MacMahon without handicap. The time limits is half an hour each, with 3 periods of 10 seconds Byoyomi. The rules are japanese, with 6.5 komi.

Side Tournaments

Rengo

The rengo tournament is a social event played the first two days of the congress. Just form a team of three and join. You can play as many rounds as you wish.

13x13

The qualification is a four rounds swiss tournament, with full handicap. Thinking time is 20 minutes with minimal byoyomi. The finals is a knock-out competition. The handicap and komi will be adapted for 13x13.

Blitz

The qualification is played in groups of 6, round robin. The finals is a knock-out tournament. Full handicap in both qualification and finals. The time limit is 10 minutes, sudden death or minimal byoyomi. The rules are japanese, with 6.5 komi.

9x9

Same system as the blitz tournament. The handicap and komi will be adapted for 9x9.

Children Tournaments

On both tuesdays, there will be tournaments for children. The exact format will be annonced later.

Marathon Tournament

The marathon is a tournament that is running during the whole congress. Just find an opponent and enter the results afterwards. Playing many games is more important than winning!
