Symposium on the
History of Go
and the representation of
Go in Art and Literature

Invitation

In conjunction with the 52nd European Go Congress in Leksand, Sweden, July 26th - August 9th 2008, an international Symposium on Go History and the representation of Go in Art and Literature will be held on July 29th - 31st. The purposes of the meeting are to help furthering the understanding and knowledge of the subjects, by giving an opportunity for experts in the field to meet and present and discuss their views, as well as to spread the knowledge and interest to wider circles of go players and the general public. We therefore invite both original work and interesting popular presentations in fields like: the early Chinese origins and history of the game, the transfer of the game to Korea and Japan and the further development in China, Japan and Korea; the reception of go in Europe and the Western World, from the first written traces in the early 17th century up to today's advanced exchange; the role and representation of go in art and literature, ancient and modern. The Symposium is supported by the Japan World Exposition Commemorative Fund.

The presentations should be oral and/or poster presentations or expositions. Manuscripts may also be submitted for publication, subject to acceptance in a review procedure. If you wish to present something at the conference, please register by separate e-mail to info@egc2008.eu.
